I have been mulling over whether or not to continue the Smaller Blogger series. I wasn’t sure if there was still interest nor if I had any singular topics that had enough “beef” to write up.
Yesterday on Facebook, I put out an informal poll to get a feel for interest and it seems very strong still. So as I pondered throughout the day what I would write on, the minutes and hours slipped away. I remembered I had promised my husband an evening of just the two of us here at home; you know, once the children are in bed.
The dilemma was, though, that I still hadn’t written a post for the smaller bloggers series yet.
Then it hit me, the number one thing we as bloggers need to remember. When our family has a need {for us}, we must set aside other things. For me, it’s not a permanent “set aside”, rather it’s a temporary one. A day. A week. Or simply an evening.
Often, we may not realize how deep the need goes for us to meet that need. Does that make sense?
So, having said all that, I took the evening off to be with my husband. This has been a very busy month as we have gathered adoption paper work and gone to home study visits and doctor’s appointments.
If you haven’t read the other posts in the series or want to re-visit them, you can do that here.
Feel free to leave some topic suggestions in the comments so we can keep this series rolling!

July 26, 2012 at 7:30 amChristin, I think finding the balance and knowing when to say yes, no or later is critical to our success as bloggers, wives, mothers, human beings. Thank you for saying yes to your family/husband and continuing this series. I am usually quiet here, but I do find food for thought in what you write. Thanks for continuing. If I have an idea for a post, I’ll let you know! 🙂

July 26, 2012 at 8:13 amI love the Smaller Blogger series too, but it’s important to know when to step away from the laptop. That’s a great lesson for all of us.
Thanks, Cristin!

A few ideas:
how to do a successful give-away
how to launch an ebook
how to make your blog visually pleasing
how to make pinterest-friendly graphics
I’ll stop for now. 🙂

July 26, 2012 at 8:52 amI love this. I have to remind myself of this and practice this daily. When I committed to blogging 10 months ago, I also made a commitment to God and family — this blogging thing could not take away from my relationships with any of them. Relationship trumps all. So many times, I have to let out a deep sigh, with a smile, close the laptop lid, turn over the iPhone and go be in real life with the ones I am firstly committed to. And somehow, God made it just so, what I blog about actually holds me accountable to this.
Thanks for being real with us.

PS We have adopted (from Guatemala) and are in the process of adopting from the Philippines- right there with you on loads of paperwork 🙂

July 26, 2012 at 11:33 amAgree family comes first no matter what!!! I tend to not blog on the weekends, it is our family time. I try to write late when the hubby is out of town or early in the morning when everyone is still snoring:)

July 26, 2012 at 12:03 pmThat is totally okay. If there is one thing we bloggers understand is the need to put Christ and family first. Maybe that should be your next topic. The importance of unplugging.

July 26, 2012 at 1:07 pmYep. It’s always good to step away. I’ve done that this week. I didn’t intend to but each day just piled up it’s own things and blogging didn’t happen. So today is quiet at home so I’m catching up on everything I pushed aside. It’s been good. I see now that I was headed for burn out. I need to create a new daily routine that guards against burn out. Thanks for affirming my decision to step back a little this week!

July 27, 2012 at 11:41 amI’m really enjoying the series. You are right…we need to take time for our families and step away from the digital world. Our blogs will still be there, and so will our followers. Time with our family is too precious to waste.
This summer I’ve taken the time to be with my girls and only post about once or twice a week.

July 29, 2012 at 4:41 pmHi Christin,
I am new to Allume, and I’m enjoying going back and reading all of the Smaller Blogger posts. I hope you enjoyed your evening with your husband. Blog land is quick to suck us in, but more than anything we need to exist to know God and our husbands! Cheers. Thank you for all that you do!
